NOx Sensors for Trucks and Cars: HELLA Expands its Spare Parts Portfolio in the Field of Complex Electronics

• Nearly 150 sensors available worldwide for monitoring nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas of cars (12 volts) and trucks (24 volts)

• Efficient configuration of NOx sensors in the passenger car sector via macsRemote Services from Hella Gutmann Solutions

The international automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has expanded its range of spare parts to include NOx sensors for passenger cars and now offers almost 150 sensors for trucks (24 volts) and passenger cars (12 volts) worldwide. This range covers the main EU brands. "Our goal is to continuously expand the portfolio in complex electronics in order to efficiently support independent workshops in repairs," says Dr. Marcel Wiedmann, Head of Independent Aftermarket & Workshop Solutions at HELLA. "With our ready-to-use spare parts and the accompanying services from Hella Gutmann, we guarantee a smooth repair process."

NOx sensors play a crucial role in monitoring and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions from modern diesel vehicles in order to comply with strict Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards. They have their own control unit that communicates with the engine control unit via a CAN bus. "The sensor is sensitive to disturbances in its environment. When repairing, workshops not only need the right spare part, but also the corresponding expertise, as new sensors must first be taught," says Wiedmann.

The macsRemote Service from Hella Gutmann, which was specially developed for passenger cars, offers independent workshops an innovative solution for remote configuration that enables fast and efficient remote teaching, coding and calibration of sensors and vehicle electronics. For NOx sensors to function properly, the software must be coordinated with that of the engine control unit. While this is possible with conventional systems with a multi-brand tool, the latest generation of vehicles requires special coding of the sensor with the software provided by the car manufacturer. "Our macsRemote hardware enables us to establish a connection to the vehicle and link the new sensor to the existing control unit," explains Jens Schubert, Category Manager at Hella Gutmann Solutions.

By using the macsRemote Service, independent workshops can not only work more efficiently, but also increase their competitiveness compared to brand-specific specialist workshops. For example, they save valuable time and minimize insurance risks by offering services directly on site, which avoids long waiting times and transport risks to OE workshops. As a result, the majority of the income remains in the independent workshop, customer loyalty is strengthened, and the efficiency of the work processes is increased.

By combining spare parts and innovative remote diagnostics technology, HELLA underlines its pioneering role in solving modern challenges in vehicle repair and offers independent workshops valuable practice-oriented support in everyday life. For example, HELLA also provides support with extensive information and repair instructions via HELLA TECH WORLD, as well as a specially set up support hotline.
