Major expansion of the thermal management portfolio

MS Motorservice International GmbH is significantly expanding its thermal management product range. With new air-conditioning and engine cooling components, the company is strengthening its position as a full-range supplier of high-quality parts under the premium Pierburg brand. With over 200 items now available, the portfolio covers more than 250 million vehicles.

Additions to the air-conditioning range
The air-conditioning management system controls the cabin’s temperature and air distribution, so enhancing comfort inside the vehicle. Intelligent systems not only cool the passenger compartment, but also actively control the temperature of the high-voltage batteries and drive trains to maintain performance and range. Motorservice offers the key components of the refrigerant circuit for combustion engined, hybrid and electric vehicles as aftermarket products. These include electric and belt-driven air-conditioning compressors, pressure switches, expansion valves, air-conditioning receiver-dryers, condensers and evaporators.

The air-conditioning compressor
Motorservice currently offers over 20 belt-driven and 10 electric air-conditioning compressors in OE quality for over 40 million passenger cars. In mid-2026, the product range was expanded to include additional electric air-conditioning compressors for vehicles from Toyota, Volvo, Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and others with a market potential of over ten million vehicles. Further new additions are already in the pipeline.

In petrol and diesel vehicles, belt-driven air-conditioning compressors are driven by the combustion engine, and only operate while the engine is running. In contrast, the electric air-conditioning compressor for hybrid and electric vehicles is fitted with a dedicated electric motor. Consequently, electric air-conditioning compressors also operate when the engine is switched off.

When replacing the electric air-conditioning compressor, the system must be flushed. All parts that cannot be flushed must be replaced, including the expansion valve, the air-conditioning receiver-dryer and the seals. Otherwise, contaminants may remain in the system, and could damage the new air-conditioning compressor.

Further applications in the refrigerant circuit
Motorservice covers a fleet of over 200 million vehicles with the pressure switches from Pierburg. The switches are approved for use with R134a and R1234yf, and monitor the pressure on both the high- and low-pressure sides. If an excessively high or excessively low pressure is detected, they switch off the air-conditioning compressor to prevent damage to the system.

The expansion valves newly added to the range enable replacement in over 46 million vehicles worldwide. They separate the high-pressure side from the low-pressure side, and reduce the pressure to a constant value of approximately 2.5 bar. As all non-flushable parts must be replaced when an air-conditioning compressor is changed, the expansion valve is also a key aftermarket component.
Pierburg air-conditioning receiver-dryers meet all OE specifications, and ensure reliable filtration of the refrigerant. They remove moisture and contaminants that could otherwise lead to corrosion and damage. New to the product range is a service kit for Tesla, which covers the refrigerant circuits of over 3.7 million of the manufacturer’s vehicles.

With currently over 20 air-conditioning condensers, Motorservice offers solutions for more than 20 million vehicles from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover and other makers. The condenser is an essential component of the circuit: it extracts heat from the compressed refrigerant, causing it to liquefy. Visible damage, such as from stone chips, makes replacement essential.

Motorservice has also added seven evaporators to its range, covering 10 million vehicles worldwide. In the evaporator, the refrigerant expands, turns into a gas, and absorbs heat from the ambient air. As well as malfunctions, bacterial growth caused by condensed water may also necessitate replacement in order to avoid hygiene risks.

Engine cooling from Pierburg
Motorservice’s innovative portfolio also incorporates Pierburg-branded water pumps for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, as well as oil pumps and coolers. The parts expert is a full-range supplier in this segment. Motorservice has also recently expanded its product range in the field of engine cooling to include radiators and expansion tanks.

Radiators
Radiators are often also referred to as coolers. With 46 new radiators, Motorservice currently covers vehicles from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Jaguar, Volvo and Porsche. Pierburg products in OE quality are an important component of engine cooling, as they dissipate the heat from the engine and prevent overheating.

Friction and combustion generate enormous amounts of heat in the engine. Some of this heat is absorbed by the coolant agent. The water pump, also known as the coolant pump, transports the hot coolant agent to the radiator. In most cases, this is located at the front of the vehicle. The coolant agent flows through the fine channels of the radiator. At the same time, the head wind flows through the radiator and dissipates the heat. The radiator is usually supported by a fan to ensure optimal cooling.

If there are leaks in the radiator, it must be replaced to prevent overheating and, consequently, permanent damage to the engine and other components. It is important to use a suitable antifreeze as otherwise the fine channels of the radiator may burst in the event of frost. In addition, the anti-freeze helps with corrosion protection.

Expansion tank
Made from temperature-resistant materials, this tank combines maximum dimensional stability with light weight. Integrated pressure relief valves with precise opening pressures of 1.0 to 1.5 bar increase the boiling point of the coolant agent. Some of the 46 variants currently available feature an integrated level sensor, optimised flow paths and matching connections. Expansion tanks from Pierburg are supplied as a complete repair solution.

The expansion tank forms part of the pressure and volume management of modern engine cooling systems and is equipped with a pressure relief valve. It absorbs the thermal expansion of the coolant agent, stabilises the system pressure in the event of excess pressure or vacuum and ensures optimum filling of the entire circuit. Its position at the highest point of the cooling system enables continuous self-ventilation, reduces cavitation and protects pumps, seals and heat exchangers against overstressing.

Reliable repair solutions
By significantly expanding its thermal management portfolio, Motorservice is strengthening its market position, and offering workshops worldwide a comprehensive, future-proof product range of OE‑quality products. The new components cover a broad spectrum of modern vehicle technologies, and enable reliable repairs for millions of vehicles.
