To that end, each of DENSO’s products is engineered to maximise their environmental efficiency, and ensure they put the least burden on the world’s fragile ecosystems.
Focusing in on one aspect of these environmental efficiencies, fuel consumption, DENSO is taking the matter further than simply maximising the performance of its products, but is also developing traffic control technologies to help ease traffic congestion and micro grid technologies to potentially help manage energy use across every sector of society.
First taking its products, DENSO’s three primary aims are: to increase engine efficiency, reduce engine load and recover energy.
Increasing engine efficiency, and also that of the drive motors used in hybrid and electric vehicles (EV), reduces the wasteful use of fuel and electricity. This is made possible by the combination of several DENSO product specialisms in both petrol and diesel engine management systems, in tandem with start-stop systems and specialist hybrid and EV components.
Reducing engine load can be achieved by minimising the energy consumed for non-propulsion purposes, such as powering the air conditioning (AC) system, for example. The use of DENSO ejector cycle and cold storage AC systems, as well as heat pumps and high efficiency starter alternators, combined with specialist hybrid and EV components, make these load reductions possible
Recovering energy from the heat dissipated during braking and storing it for when it’s required needs a combination of DENSO technologies, including battery packs and heat storage systems, as well as its previously mentioned specialist hybrid and EV components.
When it comes to the traffic control and micro grid technologies, these are systems that work with infrastructure based systems to reduce or avoid traffic congestion and improve traffic flow. In addition, working with home energy storage solutions, both household and mobility energy requirements can be minimised, with the obvious environmental benefits they bring to everyone.
By combining the inherent knowledge within its various divisions, DENSO is applying its philosophies and subsequently making a positive contribution to preserve a sound planet.
