DENSO is one of the world’s leading original equipment (OE) component manufacturers and a true thermal management expert with many of its products and systems refined in the crucible of the highest level motorsport competition, thus ensuring their operational performance and reliability

Thermal management is always a balancing act because of the range of temperatures, altitudes and different conditions that vehicles need to operate under. Much of the development work the company undertakes is within the DENSO Thermal Systems R&D facility in Italy, where, with the benefit of a full-scale wind tunnel, which can be varied to represent the intense cold of Finland to the merciless heat of the Sahara, the DENSO technical team puts into practice its ethos of continuous improvement and, as R&D Director, Matteo Biglia puts it: “where every small improvement counts and where working well under pressure, with the tenacity never to give up, allows us to learn to develop the qualities that we pick up and which we try to reflect in our everyday work.”

This attitude defines the quality and reliability of DENSO’s entire thermal management range and combines with its experience with thermal solutions that stretches back to the 1950s when car heaters were among the first products it sold as an independent company. Air conditioning (AC) and cooling systems were soon added to its product line-up and this kick-started a journey of innovation that continues to this day, with DENSO as an established leader in HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems.

DENSO HVAC systems not only regulate air temperature and flow volume to keep the cabin comfortable, but they also provide the best possible driving experience by ensuring optimum cabin air quality. As a result, DENSO thermal parts are recognised as being at the forefront of the market, not only in the automotive sector, where they are fitted as OE parts by several major vehicle manufacturers (VMs), but also in domestic and industrial heaters and cooling systems.

Further demonstrating its leadership in developing comprehensive HVAC systems that encompass thermal management, engine cooling and cabin air filters, in 2012 DENSO designed and introduced the three-zone HVAC System, which was capable of separately controlling the climate in the cabin for the driver, front passenger and rear seat areas. In addition to the comfort benefits the system delivers, it can also help to improve overall fuel economy when the AC is on.

Today, DENSO’s range of AC and thermal parts for temperature control is comprehensive and includes principal parts such as compressors, condensers and cabin blowers, as well as oils, and other HVAC related components, plus engine cooling components like radiators, thermostats and intercoolers.

DENSO is one of the world’s largest OE HVAC system suppliers with around 40% of all new vehicles in the EU using a DENSO system. Furthermore, the cabin air filter is a crucial part of the HVAC system and here again, DENSO supplies around 40% of the OE market.

As DENSO parts are trusted by VMs and used in an OE capacity, aftermarket professionals can rely on them to perform consistently at a high level and match OE quality in terms of output and longevity. However, not only does DENSO supply workshops and distributors with a comprehensive, smart range of AC and thermal components, but it also supports the independent service and repair sector with advice and training to help ensure a first-time fit, every time.
